All the trivia facts in this file are taken out of "MARIO MANIA", a complete
guide to Super Mario World, published by Nintendo of America Inc. To avoid
being sued for plagerism, I have put everything into my own words.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running is the most common activity in all of the Mario adventures. It takes
Mario 1.55 seconds to reach maximum speed when holding down on the B, X, or
Y button, or the length of 11 blocks.
The many hills can increase or decrease Mario's speed, depending on whether
he's going uphill or downhill. Mario runs uphill 2.5 times faster than when
he walks uphill, and he runs 1.2 times faster downhill compared to walking
downhill.
In which game is Mario the fastest? If starting from a dead stop, it takes
Mario 5.6 seconds in Super Mario Bros. to run 50 blocks, 6.05 seconds in
Super Mario Bros. 2, 4.6 seconds in Super Mario Bros. 3, and 4.95 seconds in
Super Mario World. The slowest Mario can get when running is when he dons a
Frog Suit in Super Mario Bros 3., in which it takes 8.25 seconds to run 50
blocks.
In every Mario game, Mario always has the same jumping ability. A standing
jump will carry Mario 4 blocks high, a walking jump will bring him 4.5 blocks
high and 5 blocks far, and a running jump is 5 blocks high and 9 blocks far.
The farthest is a sprinting jump, which is 5.5 blocks high and 12 blocks far.
The new Spin Jump in Super Mario World is terrible for jumping heights and
lengths. Its main purpose to to break some stones, and to whack some sense
into the bad guys. In combination with Yoshi, however, it can send Mario
higher than any other jump. Jump as high as you can while on Yoshi's back,
and Spin Jump off his back at the highest point in Yoshi's jump.
If you could pick any jumper, who would it be? Mario in Super Mario Bros. 3 and
Luigi in Super Mario Bros. 2 can jump 15 blocks, and the Princess, also
in Super Mario Bros. 2, can jump 14 blocks. The jumps were taken on a flat
surface, using the Y or B buttons.
Our Super Mario Bros. 2 was based on a Japanese game called Doki Doki Panic.
It was very similar, except the main character was a little guy with a
turban and baggy pants. In Japan, Super Mario Bros. 2 is a sequel to our
Super Mario.
Bros. game. Instead of a 1- and 2-player game, there is a "Mario" and "Luigi"
game. This game includes varied jumping abilities for Mario and Luigi, Poison
Mushrooms which kill you, and winds which blow you back, making jumps very
difficult.
You can change the speed at which you swim upwards in Super Mario World. If
you hold Down, you will swim upwards at one-fifth your usual upwards speed,
or 3 times normal if you hold down on Up.
Which is faster, Frog Mario in Super Mario Bros. 3, or Mario with an item in
Super Mario World? By the smallest margin, it's Frog Mario, who can swim 40
blocks in 5.25 seconds, compared to 5.45 seconds when Mario is holding an item.
When Caped Mario flys with an item, it could be referred to as a "long jump", as
Mario cannot do many of the things he could normally do when
flying. This long jump is 82 blocks long, which can only be tied by Yoshi
when he is Winged, carrying a Blue Koopa Shell, or when his blue cousin is the
jumper. A flying Yoshi can be airborne for 18 seconds before swallowing his
Blue Koopa Shell (here's a hint: push Down and have Yoshi spit out the Blue
Shell, then swallow it again to fly even longer!).
Here are five records: the smallest enemy is the Micro Goomba in Super Mario
Bros. 3; the area with the most 1-Ups is Chocolate Island 4 in Super Mario
World; the block with the most coins is in Special World Tubular, which
will produce 32 coins if you hit it while Mario is Balloon Mario; the Walking
Ptooie in 7-8 of Super Mario Bros. 3 appears once, making it the rarest
enemy in any Mario adventure; and the most valuable item which appears once
in any Mario adventure is the Kuribo shoe in 5-8 of Super Mario Bros. 3.

That's it. I hope you've been paying attention, because you never know when
there might be a pop quiz! <g>
